‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 10 review: Abel as Jax’s beacon; Gemma, Juice’s tragedies

It is hard to really even know how to discuss almost anything from Tuesday night’s “Sons of Anarchy” without starting with the obvious, and the moment that almost everyone was probably looking to see on the show the most: The big revelation regarding Gemma.

Abel spoke those words to Jax in the final moments of the extended “Faith and Despondency,” making it clear that his own mother killed his wife, and has obviously done everything in her power to cover it up. We don’t see this as a situation of Jax doubting his child, even if he has done a series of violent moves the past few weeks that include cutting his arm tonight. Children are often beacons of the truth, and do not understand the gravity of lies and secrets that adults may carry.

This is easily a game-changer, and a moment that this show finally needed to have. It came after an episode that jumped around a lot in time and was hard to follow in spots, but still riveting regardless. Juice found himself in frequently terrible positions due to Tully, which may constitute some of the show’s most-twisted scenes that we’ve seen to date. It was almost terrible having to watch that, and then switch over to the love story of Tig and Venus Van Dam. We don’t know if a pair has ever moved us as much as these two have.

Still, we have a hard time telling how much of Juice or Tig’s stories will get attention moving into next week, and the same goes for August Marks or the Indian Chills charter. Now that a major secret is out, we’re nervous, excited, and worried for Gemma like nobody’s business. Grade: A.
