‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Olivia Munn on working with Aaron Sorkin

We imagine that there are not many people nearly as intimidating to work with as Aaron Sorkin, and in a way, it is not because he does anything in particular to scare you. He’s just so prolific at what he does that he makes you take notice. He also writes dialogue that is so fast-paced that it can be hard to keep up.

Well, there is one person who certainly got the hang of it, and with having a good relationship with the writer-producer, in Olivia Munn. Previewing the new season of “The Newsroom” (which starts Sunday on HBO) in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress behind Sloan Sabbath explained how being inquisitive is something that worked to her advantage:

“Sticking to the script verbatim isn’t really a handcuff when you’re dealing with Sorkin. It’s a gift … I ask a lot of questions — I think more than most people. I was able to talk out my character with Sorkin a lot.”

As a matter of fact, Munn notes that one thing Sorkin learned about her from these conversations was her ability to speak Japanese, which is something that became a part of the show.

Ultimately, we’ll just have to see just what happens when “The Newsroom” returns for the Sloan character. We’re hoping that she and Don find some sort of happiness, but there are still many other ways this story could go.
