‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: When does production officially start?
“True Detective” season 2 has certainly been on quite a journey so far. It took a long time before some of the story even started to become clear to anyone, and even longer than for HBO to confirm Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell as cast members. They still haven’t officially announced Taylor Kitsch, though this one seems to be all but a given at this point.
While we’re still waiting on the casting news for the female lead, we at least have a reasonable answer to another long-simmering question: When are we going to get a chance to see production underway in California? Season 1 star Michelle Monaghan recently discussed the subject in a new interview with E! News, where she made it very clear that things are coming together (even if she’s not on the cast this time:
“I saw those guys a few nights ago. I’m really excited. I saw the creator, Nic Pizzolatto, two nights ago and they’re hard at work … They’re getting ready to start production in three weeks. They’ve very excited.”
With these production dates in mind, we suppose that it is theoretically possible for the second season to premiere in the summer of next year, but that is with a very tight turnaround. Worst-case scenario, we expect to see the show back on HBO come the fall, possibly in the timeslot left by the recently-ended “Boardwalk Empire.”
As soon as there are some more castings to report, we’ll have them for you soon.
