‘Gracepoint’ episode 4 review: Ellie, Emmett follow Danny suspect leads
Now that Beth knows about Mark and Gemma’s affair on “Gracepoint” will she leave him? Beth is also pregnant, so she’s in a bit of a sticky situation here and Mark certainly isn’t making it any easier. For a family that just lost their son, there are a lot of secrets, lies and hurtful situations being created at a time when it might be more beneficial for Beth and Mark to just be open and honest with each other, but in times of grief everyone reacts differently.
It has been 3 weeks since Danny’s death and the police have 2 people of interest: A hiker named Pearson that was seen with Danny before his death and Dean a resident of the town who is friends with Chloe. Ellie is feeling optimistic, but Emmett of course is as skeptical as always.
Dean is the first suspect they talk to and find out that he got the drugs he gave to Chloe from a man named Mickey. After talking to Mickey he reveals that Danny was with Dean when he got the drugs from him and that they were fighting. Dean was fighting with Danny when he saw Danny had stolen something from the gas station and was mad at him for it – interesting lecture from a man that was buying drugs in front of a 12 year old. In the end it turns out that Dean’s alibi is solid and it doesn’t look like it’s him. Although Dean is off the hook for Danny’s murder, he’s causing problems at Chloe’s house – he’s older, sold her drugs and brought their 12 year old to a drug deal.
The hiker on the other hand is being hidden by a woman in a trailer that has covered for Mark in this investigation. More then that, Beth is upset at Ellie for not bringing the picture of the hiker to her because she knows him from the visitors center. While asking Beth for camping information, Pearson had noticed the picture of her family on her desk and mentioned that she had a beautiful family. Emmett later learns that Pearson is on an anti-psychotic drug which is never great news.
After speaking with a psychic (Raymond), Beth is convinced that the killer is someone Danny knew. Paul is upset that Raymond is stirring Beth up and threatens him to stay away from her. Mark is gets angry that Paul has a photo of Danny up at the church with a prayer (for a memorial service) and Mark is even more upset that Paul is meddling in their family.
Doesn’t look like we are any closer to finding out who Danny’s killer is this week, but we are loving the ride so far. We can’t wait to watch the dinner at Ellie’s house with Emmett… it’s going to be miserable! Episode grade: B+
