‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Scott

“Sherlock” fans have to be used to waiting at this point. After all, just remember that it took three years for season 3 to arrive, and we’ve spent a good bit of time as of late sitting around and speculating about season 4 … even though it will not be on the BBC or PBS until Christmas 2015 at the earliest.

If nothing else, we can at least tell you that series stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Andrew Scott (Moriarty) are going to be spending a little bit of time together in the weeks ahead. Filming has begun officially now for the new BBC Two special The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses, which according to the network will take its story from Shakespeare’s Henry VI Parts I, II and III and Richard III. Cumberbatch is going to play Richard III, while Scott will take on Louis XI.

Is it a surprise to see these actors take on something related to Shakespeare? Hardly at all. Benedict has had a lengthy relation with the work of the Bard, as has his fellow co-star Martin Freeman (pictured with Benedict), who is also playing Richard III in his own way. These two actors, along with Scott, have managed to fill up their schedule with almost as much work as humanly possible in the time that they are not filming.

Given the timing of this filming at the moment, we expect this special to come out at some point in 2015. While the BBC may be quick with some of their turnarounds, they are not impossibly quick.
