‘Reign’ season 2 spoilers: Adelaide Kane on Mary’s pressures with children
During the “Reign” season 2 premiere, we saw Francis make a big decision when it comes to Lola and his child with her, but just as you would expect with a world this complicated, this sort of this is going to have some far-reaching consequences.
What is one of them? It really boils down to the notion that Francis’ child is going to loom large in Mary’s mind, especially as time goes by and she struggles to welcome one of her own. While it may not seem like much of an issue at first, it will become one slowly and surely over time. For more on that, just see what series star Adelaide Kane had to say on the subject to TVLine:
“As the season progresses, having the child around becomes more of an unspoken pressure for Mary as she fails to conceive … It’s a glaring reminder of her failing in what is essentially her only duty as a queen, which is to bear sons and continue the succession. The longer that takes, the more heavily it’s going to weigh on her and become a divisive factor in her relationship with Francis. … If they ever stop sharing a bed, there’s trouble on the horizon.”
The other problem here simply comes down to whether or not you allow these sort of personal crises to impact your leadership skills. The more that we see Mary emotionally impacted by this child, the harder it may make her rule. To think, she’s already been through quite a bit already with the plague.
