‘Girl Meets World’ episode 9 preview: A history lesson in ‘Girl Meets 1961’

Why does history matter?

It is a question that many a frustrated kid has wondered time and time again, and typically when they would much rather be doing something like falling asleep during class. This is the primary focus of the sneak peek video below for Friday night’s “Girl Meets World,” which carries with it the title of “Girl Meets 1961.” This is a very particular moment in time, and a decade that we probably associate best personally with “Mad Men.”

So what happens to get Cory Matthews all riled up, to the point where he tells them that they all need to ingratiate themselves into the time period for an assignment? It really just connects back to the notion that nobody in class seems to be altogether interested in listening to him discuss the history of the decade, and that bums him out on a pretty extreme level.

What we are the most interested in when it comes to this episode are the things that don’t even get played out in the sneak peek. For example, how clear of a picture of this decade are you really willing to paint on a show like this? You have to remember how most adults think of this time, and it was so much more than just flower children and good music.

One thing that we can say for sure is that this episode is the meat in a sandwich of new episodes for the show. The Disney Channel is rolling them out slowly over time, and there will be some more installments coming out later in the year.
