‘MasterChef’ season 5, episode 18 review: Did Leslie, Courtney join Elizabeth in finale?
Tonight, “MasterChef” is having itself a huge night courtesy of its two-hour finale, and it contained two of the toughest challenges that you could have expected going in.
Still, the first part of this had a very predictable result. How else did you think the first challenge to go down? The moment that Elizabeth lucked out getting Jaimee and Victoria, we felt like she was golden. These are two people she knows well, and they are excellent at taking direction. Seeing her impressing 50 chefs from all over America was not much of a shock at all.
Instead, the tension here was instead all about the biggest Pressure Test of the entire evening. We expected almost going into this that it would be Leslie’s curtain call. We expected that even more when we saw that it was a baking challenge. Leslie is not a baker, and this something that Courtney has done quite a bit of over the years.
The only thing that Leslie really had going for him was that he has been the Pressure Test beast. He has won so many of these things! In the end, though, just being here is a gift to him given how many times we were worried about him throughout this season. The strange part of this was seeing the show trying to convince us that Leslie was in the lead, despite doing something he wasn’t skilled in at all. Him substituting salt for sugar on accident with the Boston cream pie was what did him in. Grade: B.
