‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7: Charlie Humman talks further on Jax Teller, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trouble
Charlie Hunnam is set to become a pretty big deal in feature films after “Sons of Anarchy” is over, and that seems to be almost set in stone by now. The only real mystery is just when for sure it will happen.
Our guess is that Hunnam’s casting in a new movie franchise in a potential King Arthur franchise could be what propels him further, but we know what will not at this point: “Fifty Shades of Grey.” This project at one point dominated the headlines, and his casting as Christian Grey was huge. However, he eventually dropped the role due to schedule conflicts, and it went instead to Jamie Dornan.
Now, we’re finally hearing a little more all about this situation. Speaking in a new interview with Moviefone, the actor actor explained a little about how crazy it would have been to balance the FX series with doing the movie:
“I was going to finish ‘Sons’ at like 11 p.m. Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for Fifty, missing the whole first week of rehearsal and start shooting Monday morning … And I was going to shoot that film, wrap that on the Wednesday and the following Monday I was going to start shooting Crimson Peak in Toronto. I just had like… frankly, something of a nervous breakdown.”
The ambitious level of the project was also something that made him concerned:
“I just said, ‘I can’t… I can’t.’ To fail on such a grand scale — because Fifty’s going to be massive, it’s going to be huge. I really didn’t want to fail on such a grand scale and I just couldn’t transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours.”
No real “Sons of Anarchy” fan is probably ever going to blame Charlie for making this move, and there may even be some that may be relieved that he was able to deal with fewer distractions and stress while filming this final season. We’re confident he would have been able to handle it, but we want to see the man really enjoy the work he is putting in.
