‘Blue Bloods’ season 5 spoilers: Meet some new faces!

CBS LogoRather than give you a few tiny doses of “Blue Bloods” scoop spread over time, why not have it come your way all at once? We’re just over a month from the show’s season 5 premiere on CBS, and the news is starting to pour out about some major recurring characters.

All of the casting news below comes courtesy of TVLine, and we’ve separated it by character.

Holt McCallany – The former “Lights Out” actor will be coming on the show as Robert McCoy, who already has some interesting connections to Erin courtesy of a courtroom. Now, he will be serving in the position of interim District Attorney.

Bill Irwin – Coincidentally, Irwin also appeared on “Lights Out,” so how about a mini-reunion of sorts? He will be playing the Archbishop of the New York Diocese named Cardinal Brennan, and anytime religion gets introduced into one of these shows, we are very curious to see what is done with it.

LaTanya Richardson Jackson – There’s not a whole lot of information about Jackson’s role other than that she is a squad commander. Some of her past TV roles include spots on “Damages” as well as “Harry’s Law.”

For “Blue Bloods,” one of the biggest challenges simply remains continuing to draw new viewers … especially those in the 18-49 demographic. It already is the most-watched show on Friday nights by a pretty wide margin, and that is one of the reasons why the show is in syndication now and has the potential to last for a little while longer. We’re ultimately interested to see if syndication helps the ratings at all.
