‘Halt and Catch Fire’ episode 7 preview: A blast from Joe’s past

Through the run of AMC’s “Halt and Catch Fire” so far, a good percentage of it has been largely about the relationship between Cameron and Joe. Even when they are not romantic, there is a sort of co-dependence there. Joe needs her in order to do his job to the best of his ability, and she needs him mostly as a way to channel her talents. When the series started, she was sort of lost in the wilderness without a great way to really show off some of her obvious gifts.

So what happens when someone else from Joe’s past enters the equation? This is the focus of the next new episode, which is entitled “Giant.” That’s not the most specific description in the world, but it does lead to plenty of speculation. Take a look at the short synopsis below:

When a person from Joe’s past visits, his connection with Cameron is threatened.”

Do we imagine that the two will work this out? Sure, but it could threaten the entire dynamic that the two have built up so far. That has been effective for the business, but also delicate.

Now, allow us to go off-book for a minute here and talk about a separate issue: Is AMC going to announce a renewal for this show anytime soon? We know that the ratings here are not particularly great, but they did order another go-around for “Turn,” which we feel like is an inferior show overall despite the great costumes. You also have a good star in Lee Pace, and something that could build an audience over time if you get it some awards buzz and put it on Netflix like “Breaking Bad.”
