‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: The return of the Cybermen
We do love it when “Doctor Who” does get creative and brings in some new characters into the universe, but at the same time, it’s nice when there is a little nostalgia thrown in for good measure.
The photo here was first posted by the BBC, and features the official confirmation that the Cybermen, one of the most notorious foes of The Doctor, will be making at least one appearance during the upcoming eighth season featuring Peter Capaldi. This is glorious news for longtime fans, and we personally feel like these “men,” alongside the Daleks, are some of the show’s signature villains and we would be depressed if they were to ever going away completely.
As for who this “mystery woman” is in the picture, it is hardly a mystery at all. This is the Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere, a character played by “Green Wing” actress Michelle Gomez. The rest, meanwhile, is still somewhat mysterious, as this shot is presumably from late in the season and there are few things story-related that the BBC wants to give away right now.
Still, this is welcome news to cap off what has been a very good past couple of weeks for The Doctor. It was recently announced that the series would be premiering on both BBC and BBC America on August 23, and the same can be said for many other countries that air the show. (In Canada, it will be broadcast on Space as per past seasons have.) There is also a tiny teaser out there featuring Capaldi, though it is hardly the most revealing thing in the world.
What’s your take on seeing some more of the Cybermen: Excited, or do you feel for some reason like these characters have truly run their course?
