‘Halt and Catch Fire’ episode 3 preview: First look at ‘High Plains Hardware’

So far, “Halt and Catch Fire” has made a substantial amount of progress when it comes to establishing some of its characters, and the story it wants to tell of very smart people trying to actually advance in the computer age.

There were stumbling blocks aplenty tonight as Cameron once again showed off her rebellious side, but also once again a substantial amount of her skill. The issue here is that she is operating extremely under the gun, and she needs to change the code just enough in order to ensure that IBM does not completely eat them alive. That already happened quite a bit over the course of the hour.

The episode airing next week is entitled “High Plains Hardware,” and if you look at the short synopsis below, you can at least get a good idea of what to expect:

“Gordon and Cameron struggle to make Joe’s vision a reality; Joe and Bosworth seek the funds to make the new machine.”

Ultimately, the good news for the entire story ahead is that we are already getting the impression now that the show is moving in the right direction, and it could be the very show that we were hoping it would be going into it. We have three central characters, an interesting era, and ultimately something that feels different than any of the other series on TV right now.

Let’s just hope that at some point in next week’s episode, Joe and Gordon are going to find a way to get themselves out of this bind.
