‘True Blood’ season 7: Anna Paquin’s bloody tear takes center stage in new poster
While HBO may not be entirely forthcoming at the moment when it comes to videos or another promotional photo for season 7 of “True Blood,” they seem to have no problem continuing to hand out various posters.
You may have seen some of them from HBO already, but the latest one two the left here focuses on none other than Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) with a very bloody cheek running down her neck. This image is somewhat reminiscent of the earlier years of the show, when we focused heavily on black as a primary color for promotional material and also the Sookie character above all else. From this standpoint, a back-to-basics approach is welcome.
Another reason to be excited about this photo is the possibility that the show is going to dive back into some more simplified stories as it closes things off and prepares for the series finale. There is no longer a need to rush about, or give us complicated stories that separate all of our main characters from each other. At this point in the series’ run, we are not watching for the separation. We’re more invested in how everything comes together in the end.
With the departure of “True Blood,” we will be a step closer to the end of vampires as a major TV trend. We still have “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals,” and “Teen Wolf” (which at least deals with some things that are similar), but blood-drinkers were not a major component of pilot season this year, and there was no “Dracula”-like series waiting in the wings.
