‘So You Think You Can Dance’ hires Justin Bieber, controversy inevitably ensues

So You Think You Can DanceFrom the moment that “So You Think You Can Dance” ever considered bringing Justin Bieber on board, you have to believe that they must have been aware of what the reaction could be. There are going to be some who hate it just on idea alone, and nothing about that will change.

Here is what we know about the singer’s involvement right now. Bieber and choreographer Nick DeMoura are going to work to introduce a four-episode mini-feature throughout the season on dance crews. Using social media, fans will vote on who among these groups is worthy of getting another opportunity to strut their stuff during the finale.

From one standpoint, we really don’t have anything against Bieber trying to get himself together and put into a good light again. Maybe he realizes that he made some big mistakes, and we don’t feel like someone should be denied chances to turn it around. After all, there were times when other pop stars with bad behavior managed to become beloved citizens. However, that should happen in a way that doesn’t include messing with a great formula. Bieber can dance to a certain extent, but we’ve never liked it when the show includes people in any form whose dance experience comes mostly via music videos or dancing on stage. Remember Carly Rae Jepsen from the last season of the show? Exactly.

So in the end, we’d be happy if Bieber made his comeback in a little more subtle a fashion, like going away for a year or so, getting himself together, and then coming back with a new attitude and music that reflects that. At least there is DeMoura working with him here, and he is someone who definitely knows this world well.

What do you think about the show’s decision to bring Bieber on board: Is it somewhat smart, or instead completely crazy? Share some of your thoughts below, and head over here to get some more news worth dancing about via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
