‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch lands himself another new gig

Sherlock season 3This is going to start feeling like a broken record to some fans of “Sherlock“: Benedict Cumberbatch routinely getting new job after new job in the industry that is not another season of the BBC series. Granted, he’s completely at the mercy of the BBC and Steven Moffat also sorting things out, so why should he wait around and not accept some great opportunities?

The latest news comes out of Cannes today, where it was reported that Cumberbatch is going to star in “The Yellow Birds,” a war film directed by David Lowery. Given that Cumberbatch already has multiple other stage and screen credits coming up, this forces his schedule to be even more complicated than it was previously. While there have been rumors about next year being the ideal tiem to shoot a new “Sherlock” season, that has not been even remotely confirmed as of yet.

Do we feel like Cumberbatch and company will return eventually? Definitely, if for no other reason than that “Sherlock” is a brilliant promotional platform. It helped him become a big star, and going back to this show every couple of years can keep his fan following happy, and serve as a great way to promote everything else that he is doing. Plus, it is not the sort of TV gig swallows up your entire life like doing a “Grey’s Anatomy” or a single-camera comedy here in America with 22-24 episodes.

What do you think about this new gig for the actor?
