CBS head denies discussions with Joel McHale for ‘Late Late Show’ gig

If we are going to see “the Late Late Show with Joel McHale” at some point in the future, it is something that has not been discussed in full just yet.

Speaking in an interview on Bloomberg TV, CBS executive Les Moonves stated that there have been zero discussions with the “Community” star about taking over for Craig Ferguson when he is done later this year … though we still don’t believe that this conversation is over by any means. This is not a network that loves to take chances, and it makes sense for them to hire someone who already knows the late-night crowd, and is a popular touring comedian already (even if some hated the White House Correspondents Dinner gig).

What is also interesting about this interview is that Moonves also denied that a late-night TV job was “offered” to Neil Patrick Harris, despite some recent comments from the “How I Met Your Mother” star. Moonves claims that the two talked about the future in general terms, and the idea of late-night was discussed. (To us, this really seems like apples and oranges.)

We do feel like no matter what, CBS is going to make a decision on the future of the show sooner rather than later, mostly because they want to properly prepare and plan everything out. When David Letterman first announced that he was retiring, for example, it really did not take long for the network to step in and hire Stephen Colbert. They do their discussions quickly, by the book, and also out of the press.
