‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Matt Smith compares himself, Peter Capaldi

The latest -Matt Smith is currently making quite a tour of North America! Ever since signing off as The Doctor, the actor has made a variety of different appearances at conventions everywhere from Calgary to New Orleans to now Minneapolis, where he was this past weekend for their annual Wizard World convention.

Smith did a Q&A session about “Doctor Who” and other topics there in front of a packed crowd, and one thing that he did (per Comicbook.com) was discuss Peter Capaldi, and even compare how his performance as The Doctor could compare with his own:

“Peter will be brilliant … He’s a lovely man. He’s going to do something which is inventive and new, and he’s doing really well and he’s having a good time. I’m a massive fan of his before the show…I’m a fan, like you guys now. I think he’ll be brilliant.

“Will he be better than me? I hope not (this was meant as a joke) … He’ll be different, and it will be a different show and it will be a new show and that’s what Doctor Who is about, and I’ve got to let it go. And the great thing about it is everyone has their own Doctor. So, hopefully, there’s a few eight or nine-year-olds out there who I’ve claimed.”

Capaldi’s Doctor is now well into filming the eighth season, and there has been nothing but good things said about him from almost everyone so far (even if you would expect this). We’ll have a little bit of a better sense as to his performance come August or September, when the show is back on the air. It may take a couple of weeks for us to really start to judge him, but he has the resume and the love of the show needed to pull this off.
