NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Christina Grimmie, Kristen Merlin, Audra McLaughlin lead iTunes
If you look at the iTunes rankings following Monday night’s episode of “The Voice,” you’re going to get a pretty good idea already of who is going to be sticking around for a little while. (Note: The show does consider more than iTunes, and this data is as of 1:00 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday afternoon.)
The clear frontrunner here at this point is Christina Grimmie. Regardless of whatever concern there was going into this season about whether she was already too famous to being on the show, we’re starting to feel like she deserved to win just based on her performances alone. Her “Hold On, We’re Going Home” from last night was inventive and powerful, and it is sitting pretty at #3 behind only Ariana Grande and Pharrell Williams on the charts. The only other artist in the top 20 is Kristen Merlin for her take on Passenger’s “Let Her Go.”
As for other artists that are likely safe, you can look towards Audra McLaughlin (#27), Kat Perkins (#32), and Josh Kaufman (#33), who actually managed to convince people in 2014 to buy a cover of a Kenny Loggins song. Jake Worthington (#36) is probably also fine, and while she is down at #64, we feel like Sisaundra Lewis is also probably going to be all right thanks to performing last.
With Delvin Choice at #73, you would think that he would be okay … but there’s the instant save! Going based on iTunes alone, he will probably be stuck against both Bria Kelly and Tess Boyer in her second straight week in the bottom. We’d probably pick him to stick around, if for no other reason than that these other two singers were not even in the top 100. That doesn’t bode well for their future, and you might as well keep artists with potential.
