‘The Following’ season 2 finale review: Who’s in the truck, and did Ryan kill Joe?
“The Following” season 2 has been a heck of a baffling season a times, and we were banking on some moments of clarity in the finale Monday night to try to make things at least partially more understandable.
Did we ultimately end up having that? We’d like to file that answer as somewhere between “yes” and “no.” The biggest character growth for Ryan Hardy was him putting the trust in the police to actually take care of Joe Carroll, as he was arrested rather than killed. To him, that was the way to end things rather than just with him becoming just like Joe all over again. Granted, this does unfortunately leave open the possibility that he could come creeping back into the show at some point again.
But even with this big move, this is just not a great day for Ryan. Even though he took care of Joe, he still couldn’t be with Claire as she decided to move on, and not be with him so that they were not so burdened by their past. This, presumably, does mean that Natalie Zea could be out of the show again depending on what happens during the hiatus.
Speaking of pairings, Max and Mike kissed! Well, that means that Mike and Ryan are going to be seeing each other quite a bit in the future.
The finale ended in a way that was somewhat understandable, but also strange. Who picked Mark up in the truck? The guy doesn’t have that many friends now courtesy of all that happened. But he remains the loose end and the cliffhanger, while Ryan seems intent with moving on with his life.
This was in the end an okay finale, but it doesn’t make up for the weird, at times awful second part of this season. We’re still trying to process most of that. Grade: C.

I really believe it is the news reporter Carrie Cooke she’s the only one who was missing from all the action and she been with the followers since the beginning of this season. Plus she always wants an exclusive and will do anything for it even sleep with Ryan. Remember the twins didn’t know Claire was alive until the Lake scene so why would they have her number. The only person the twins kept in contact with (outside there circle) was Carrie Cooke unless Emma’s still alive which I doubt. I really see this mass-killing mumbo jumbo hitting a global level and with Carrie leading followers. I always felt she had a sort of sadistic side to her exclusive reporting. It has been plenty of times where she could’ve handed over evidence but instead she promoted to further her career. Think about it…Now that Joe Carroll is caught where would she get here hard exclusives from???? Or it could’ve been Joe Carroll’s teacher but isnt he dead???? the twins couldve been one of his students????

Gotta be Claire that picked Mark up at the end, right? What other significant character, at least that’s still alive, would be worthy of a finale cliffhanger?
There was that brief shot of her right after Ryan didn’t kill Joe that was like an exasperated “WTF?”. She’ll be teaming up with Mark next season to figure out a way to kill Joe in prison (or break him out to kill him) and, if they completely jump the shark, go after Ryan, too.
