‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10, episode 18 review: Derek falls; Alex’s offer

Thursday night’s “Grey’s Anatomy” is the first one in really two weeks to focus on a variety of characters, and that was definitely a good thing. After all, we were actually starting to forget what was going on with some of the other people who aren’t named Cristina Yang … but we certainly don’t feel that way anymore.

The obvious “major story” in this episode was a sickness that was traveling through the walls of the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, and basically making life completely miserable for almost everyone inside. Everyone chose to deal with it differently, though for Derek and Jackson, the temptation for some reason was to continually fight through the disease, even if they knew in their hearts that this was a pretty terrible decision to make.

To us, what was a little more interesting was seeing the story of Alex, who is starting to really think about his future. He’s a doctor who could have massive amounts of debt coming up in his future, and thanks to that, he really has to figure out what he’s going to do. He does have an offer now to join some sort of private practice … if he is interested in going that route, that is.

Eventually, the story built to an ending that was about decisions, characters needing help, and more. We also saw that Webber was one of the few smart doctors who understood that it really was in his best interest to go home rather than deal with this sort of illness around everyone.

In the end, the one thing that we really didn’t feel good about with this episode is that there were so many loose ends, and compared to the past few episodes, there really wasn’t that much that happened. Sad face. Grade: B-.
