‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Ellen Pompeo shares photo of Isaiah Washington

Burke is back … or at least for one episode. For most of the spring so far, the most talked-about return to TV is of a guy on “Grey’s Anatomy” we seriously never thought would come back in Isaiah Washington. Nonetheless, the actor was on set today filming some of his first scenes for an upcoming episode.

The first photo of Burke’s return came courtesy of series star Ellen Pompeo, who shared it on her Instagram page. Clearly, the good news here is just that it is an opportunity to see a character back in action who we haven’t seen in a while; as for the bad news, it is mostly that you cannot really get anything from this image to help explain what is coming up for the character moving forward.

What we know mostly comes courtesy of a statement from Shonda Rhimes earlier this year, who claimed mostly that the return of Burke was essential in order to wrap up the tale of Cristina Yang the right way. We saw her wrestling with a number of big decisions on Thursday night’s episode, and one of the appeared to be to let Owen go. It was subtle, but this could set up another course of events that allows her to walk away from the hospital without feeling attached to anyone … or in turn like she could also hold someone else back in a way that hurts them in the long-term.

As for whether or not we could see any other former cast members return soon, we imagine that this will be a subject of conversation better suited for the next season … or whenever the last season of the show is. That is when some of the hardest decisions to date will need to be made.
