‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8 will likely start on Mondays
In the wake of the big news regarding “The Big Bang Theory” airing on CBS for at least three more seasons, there is one other question that you have to ask: When will these new episodes actually air? With CBS’ acquisition of NFL football on Thursday nights in the fall, their schedule is going to change pretty dramatically, and you know that the last thing the network wants to do is sit around and wait to premiere their most-successful show in years until a couple of months into the season.
Well, you should take the following comments as close to a guarantee that this is not going to happen. CBS chief Les Moonves recently told the Deutsche Bank Annual Media, Internet & Telecom Conference that he expects to have the show start off season 8 on a Monday, where it will remain for several weeks before shifting back to its normal timeslot. “The Big Bang Theory” was originally a Monday show, so it knows this timeslot very well.
What this move could do is create a very interesting logjam at this spot for at least a few weeks in the fall. “The Big Bang Theory” could compete against both “The Voice” and “Dancing with the Stars,” and that should be interesting to see unfold, given that the former has been demolishing “American Idol” for some time now.
Moonves also added at this event that there are going to be around two comedies and two dramas that the network adds for the new season, and the NFL is making the field much more competitive than it ever was in the past. You also have to consider football when thinking about the fate of “The Mentalist” and “The Crazy Ones,” which were not picked up by the network in a recent mass renewal. Their fate does not look so good right now.
