‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: More on Misha Collins’ directorial debut
Who wants to see Misha Collins in the director’s chair on “Supernatural“? If you’ve been eagerly awaiting this big episode for the actor, here is the good news: It’s coming soon! The official air date of this episode is on Tuesday, March 25, and the title is “Mother’s Little Helper.”
Based on what we have for you below, the great thing here is that Misha is not just taking on an ordinary standalone episode of the show. While there may be at least in part of this that revolves around characters you haven’t seen before, there is also something about the Mark of Cain and also what happens when you get the Men of Letters’ history involved.
Take a look at the official synopsis for this one below:
“Dean (Jensen Ackles) struggles with the after effects of the Mark of Cain. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) hears about a case where straight-laced people are turning into violent murderers. Sam suspects possession and suggests to Dean that they investigate, but Dean tells him to go without him. While interviewing the local townsfolk, Sam meets an elderly woman named Julia (guest star Jenny O’Hara), who tells him the Men of Letters came to town in 1958. Josie tells Sam the story of a young man named Henry Winchester (guest star Gil McKinney) and his female companion, Josie Sands (guest star Alaina Huffman).”
Anytime that you can see a young Henry Winchester and the woman otherwise known as Alaina on the show, you have to feel good about that.
Misha’s episode got a ton of press earlier the year, mostly because of the fact that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles continued to play a series of pranks on him.

I am so ridiculously excited for this episode. I mean I have been ever since they announced he was directing but after seeing such a plot heavy episode description I am having a lot of trouble waiting. Wow I am extremely excited to see what Misha has to offer to the director’s chair. I mean he’s been such an incredible actor on the show, such an incredible inspiration to his fans, and now he has a chance to put a new spin on his role in SPN. Misha will wow us I know it. I am a Misha and a Cas fan through and through and episode 17 cannot come sooner!

I’m really looking forward to an episode that’s going to be directed by Mish. I adore the show and I adore all the characters, I know he’ll do great with them. I really like the way the season is going so far and excited to see where it goes (no matter how heartbreaking it may be).

I have to admit that I’m a bit sad about this episode, but only because it will be (as far as I can tell) missing my personal favorite character. For me, any episode with Cas in it becomes a 100% better….any episode that has Cas with Dean becomes 1000% better…and any episode that includes Cas, Cas&Dean, and Team Free Will becomes a 1000000000% better. Cas is my favorite character of all time and I’d personally love it if he were in every episode of the show.
However, Misha is one of my most favorite people in the world. I adore him and how much he does to try to the make the world a better place, from his amazing work with his charity Random Acts to spreading kindness everywhere, being incredible to all his fans, and just how he makes people laugh and smile and truly cares about others. So because of all that, I am thrilled that Misha has had the opportunity to direct an episode of Supernatural. Not a single doubt in my mind that it will be brilliant and that he did a fantastic job and I’m very happy for him. I also really enjoyed seeing his friends, Jensen & Jared, playing the pranks on him. I love J2M and their great friendships!

I’m so excited!! Misha is directing and I can’t wait to see how he does. Just adds another layer to his resume. Amazing! This whole cast is great and I’m so happy that I am included in our family. I’m 100% sure his directing is going to be, at the very least, good. Jared and Jensen would not have pied Misha if he was being terrible. Seeig them goofing off with each other just makes me impatient for this episode. I want to see it. And then I want to see the bloopers on repeat!! Love this show and I especially love this cast. When they are moving on with their careers I will continue to support them and cheer when they recieve all the awards. Good luck!

Misha is by far my favorite actor on the show, and I’m sad that he hasn’t been in many episodes lately, but I feel that this will be awesome.

It will be extremely interesting and exciting to see. Misha’s not new to directing, he’s tried it in Stranger Danger, Divine (I think) and TSA America, and of course Cooking Fast and Fresh with West, :) but as far as I know this is his first time in charge of such a large operation. He probably couldn’t have wished for a better opportunity. He knows the show really well, the cast and crew loves him (as confirmed by Jensen Ackles and others on the show), and he seems like the kind of person who knows that letting each individual shine at their particular skill is the smart move. For me, as someone who’s fascinated by the craft and art of acting, I always enjoy seeing actors turn directors. They will usually pay the utmost attention and respect to the acting and know how to bring out the most outstanding performances from other actors. Misha himself is an incredibly smart and kind man with a sort of fresh outsider perspective on everything, a direct, honest “that’s stupid, why don’t we invent a whole new way of doing things instead” approach and a sense of humor that’s both brilliant, quirky, snarky and really surprisingly dirty. He has a league of dedicated fans – minions, he calls us – who will follow everything he does with great interest. So yeah, I can’t wait. :)

I am so looking forward to this episode! I just know that Misha Collins will be able to pull some heart-wrenching performances out of Jensen Ackles (Dean), even more intense than usual, and finally some plot development that will affect Sam and the direction he wants his life to go in rather than passively being affected by events – seems like he’d rather be a Man of Letters rather than hunting for the bulk of his time. I hope they’ll be able to fit Cas into this too – with the Mark of Cain thing Dean’s going through and Castiel having had his Godstiel experience with the Leviathan and souls, he can really understand what Dean’s going through. This is going to be the episode that will have fans and casual watchers alike going “Heck yeah- bring on Season 10! I want more of this!”

What makes you think Misha will do this for Jensen? Jensen can stand on his own two feet. I also don’t understand what Godstiel has to do with Cas understanding Dean. That makes absolutely no sense. They’re NOT the same. I think that Cas doesn’t fit into the Mark of Cain because he is an angel. The only person that would understand is Cain himself. I really didn’t hope for S10 because this show is on a loop.

There are a couple on here who are willing to have an open and intelligent conversation – the rest I’m afraid are sheep! They follow blindly based on nothing to do with talent, storyline or even sense. You hit the nail on the head – it has nothing to do with the actually story but their warped version of what a relationship should be. It is all driven by ships! Nothing to do with the show itself! As you rightly say Mr Ackles is perfectly capable of acting without any help from anyone else. If anything cas wouldn’t understand Cain just as he doesn’t understand Lucifer. I repeat it is both inappropriate and unjust.
This has taken miniscule energy and very little focus either – I’m only chatting about a cable TV show with fictional characters. I’m not sentencing someone to death for goodness sake.
Get some perspective.
It was not my intention to be poisonous or noxious! I am not presenting myself as anything other than bored with a character and sick of being called “hater” because of it! Rationality doesn’t enter into it – I’m discussing fiction not fact.
You accuse me of ignoring things I said when that is exactly what nearly everyone else is doing. They pick up on one thing not the whole. I don’t claim to be right or anybody to be wrong. Yet not one person I have replied to has bothered to answer the question I asked of the first person who claimed “hate” – Why can a person not disagree without being called a hater. I apologise for expecting a debate and having a contrary view point. Are we only now allowed to comment if it is in agreement? This argument as gotten so far from it’s original point it’s ridiculous!
I used trope to lead into a comment that, in my opinion, the character of Cas and the whole angel theme is tired and has done it’s time. That is all. It is what I feel, it’s not intended to spark rancour. I was open to debate but all I got was accusations of hate (aside from 2 people).
You are right though I did call “shippers” sheep – I stand corrected on that! I do however believe that shippers follow but concede they are still people not indeed sheep!
I thank you for your wishes of good luck but send them to someone who really needs them. I obviously have the luxury of a tiny bit of spare time to voice an opinion on a TV show. I have that luxury because I am fulfilled and can therefore use it, amongst other things, on message boards! I am not however your “friend” – I do not even know you or pretend to know you.

I can not wait for the episode, as Misha is an awesome actor and I know he will make an amazing director. His Cas is a HUGE asset to the show, as proven by the fact he brings in ratings; episodes pulling in higher numbers, when he is involved. Constant poll wins for Misha and his Cas; for TFW. The Bromance award for all three of the actors (J2 and Misha). I’m very tired of the haters ranting on Misha and his Cas, as in many ways Misha and his Cas have kept the show on the air since season four.

Show me proof of this because it’s hogwash. If it does, it’s probably because shippers are on their toes waiting for Deathstiel to happen. You also know that it was supposed to go off by S5 right? He was hardly in S5. Let alone S4. S6 probably only came because the CW got greedy. Yeah? The only reason they got the “bromance” award was because fandom has nothing better to do. The reason the show is still going on, is BECAUSE OF CASTIEL. I’m really sorry to hear you don’t care for him, but most (More than 3/4s the viewers) people would have stopped watching if it was just two brothers fighting constantly. If that’s your thing, then that’s you thing, but Cas gives the show that extra flare, something to work around, much like Gabriel, Lucifer, Balthazar and Crowley do (and did) for a while. Cas’ is just more permanent , and he really brings out the show. But whatever lifts your skirt and everyone has their own opinions.
And there are facts, look them up. We shouldn’t have to prove something to you that you can find on your own.

It’s true this season the Cas episodes have had high ratings, but then again the highest rated episode so far is one without Cas (“Sharp Teeth”). And if you go back to seasons 6, 7 and 8 his episodes aren’t that big ratings wise, in fact they are some of the lowest of the respective seasons.

I’d like to see him fail miserably! Trope! His character has longed overstayed it’s welcome and has held the story lines up so they have become so boring. I am sick to back teeth of angels! Get rid of them and start a new and interesting story arc. There are so many supernatural myths they could draw on. Yet all we get is endless angel rubbish! It has ruined a great show. Er ……. So he doesn’t do it again! There have been terrible episodes before and probably will be again. I’ll sacrifice this one for a brand new story line! It isn’t so much about disliking a character as keeping things fresh! In my opinion, the angel stories have been done to death and new blood is needed. I wish the writers had stuck to the original plan and written the character out seasons ago. They didn’t so, hoping he fails is best I can do for now!!

NO!!! I DON’T HATE ANYONE ON THIS SHOW!!!! I wish people wouldn’t bandy words around without thought! Hate is a very strong word and not appropriate here. I do not know Mr Collins so I do not know if I like him or not! What I’m saying is – if they had stuck to the original plan Mr Collins would no longer be a guest star on the show and therefore would not be directing! It is NOT a personal thing against him. Until the episode airs we do not know exactly what it is about. That however is irrelevant to the point I’m making. There are thousands of untapped supernatural stories out there but the show is stuck in a groove of repetition. The Leviathan SL was a complete mess! Nothing special about it. The Leviathans looked awful. They were supposed to be this force to be reckoned with but the writers FAILED at it. I also think anybody has a right to hate a character as they please. If you don’t like it, I think it’s best that you continue to love Misha/Cas and not worry about so-called “haters”.

The original plan, you say. Which original plan was this?When he first appeared in year 4 when Kripke was in charge? Let’s keep in mind that it is year 9 now and Kripke is off doing another show. Or are you talking in year 7 when Gamble was in charge? Remember we are in year 9 now and Gamble is ??? The show has lasted longer than any “original plan” would have accounted for and has changed hands twice, so to speak. In light of this, your insistence that they stick to the “original plan” is ludicrous. Somehow, I have the feeling if it was year 20 of the show, you’d still be here wishing Misha ill and Cas off the show. But you’re not hateful at all. Right.

Cas was supposed to go in the episode of On The Head of A Pin. If you read up on it, you’ll find that little gem. Was Gamble in charge during S4? No she wasn’t. In my opinion, Cas is only around because of shippers. Don’t want to make them angry.

I like the angel story line – personally I don’t even think they’ve scratched the surface on Heaven or Hell. :)

No they haven’t but the Cas story has been scratched raw! They could scratch well enough without this character. I’d rather they looked elsewhere altogether is all. Thank you for lack of emotion and a sensible response. :)

Oh I think there’s lots more that can be done with characters like Cas and even Crowley for that matter – so much back story we don’t know. They are our gateway characters into larger worlds.
I don’t know about lack of emotion but I understand what you were going for there ;)

I guess I’m missing the cause and effect of Misha failing as a director and the continuation of either Cas as a character on the show or the angel story line. I agree that if he “fails miserably” and the episode is terrible he would not be allowed to direct again, but I doubt that would change anything about either his character or the angel/heaven story line.

Actually older!! You think so! I bet you are not! I’m probably older than your mother! Not that age has anything to do with it! Do young people not have a right to an opinion- even if it’s different to yours? How sad if that’s the case.
I’m not propagating hate – or whining – I’m simply doing what you are and stating an opinion. I am not sorry that it doesn’t agree with yours.
The article is about directing SPN which I answered first with trope and then with an added opinion that the angel storyline has had it’s time; As the person directing plays one!
I’m not screaming hate at those who like that storyline – people may like whatever they please.
I thank you for realising I am wise though! I also thank you for your “words” as useless as they are. Maybe we both have too much time on our hands!
I will not stop commenting though because I have as much right as the next person, to comment on fiction, even if I dare to disagree. Let’s get it straight – you just don’t like that I (you assume) don’t like the same character as you!

I did not use “trope” incorrectly – I highlighted “Non-Literal”. But never mind.
I also did not say I was surprised at people going totally overboard and using the word “hate”. I asked why having a different opinion is labelled as hate? That is completely different.
This is not “an environment of positivity” It’s a NEWS site – If I cannot state opinion on a news site it’s a sad state of affairs.
If you can not take people disagreeing with you and feel your energy is sapped maybe you should stick to fan forums and not TV news sites. We are talking about fictional characters not real life. It is you who does not understand, preferring instead to state baseless accusations. My energy levels are fine as I’m sure everybody else’s is. Let us not go over the top. What you and most others seem incapable of doing – is accepting people do not agree with you. The mature thing to do is agree to disagree not remain silent. I used so many exclamation points because you refuse to even listen to what I am saying, choosing to put your own slant on it. I did not say “I hate Misha Collins” or Misha Collins should be stoned to death” – I simply said I think the character and storyline has had it’s day and I’m tired of it. That is NOT hate. I keep repeating myself because I will not be quiet anymore – I’m tired of being told I hold strong feelings that I do have. We live in a world of colour not black and white. Opinion on fiction is neither right or wrong. positive or negative. It is not about Love or Hate. Disagreeing is NOT diminishing someone’s interests. We are discussing FICTIONAL CHARACTERS not voting on capital punishment.If nobody spoke of their dislikes then things would stay the way they are because it would be thought all are in agreement. Growth can only come with debate. If you choose not to voice your dislike it is your prerogative, just as it is mine to do so. You first answered me in mocking tone – why can I not respond to this in kind? I’m bored with a character and storyline – I still enjoy the Winchester’s and Crowley. That is all – is it really such a crime not to enjoy the angels anymore. I was sticking with it until they just decided to kill Bartholomew but that was the last straw for me. I’m over the angel stuff because cas gets in the way of developing the story. It is an opinion – if you disagree with it that’s fine. It simply isn’t hate. And I will not remain silent just because you or anyone else doesn’t agree with me. If you are sapped or uncomfortable do not respond to a post on a TV news site. I am however not your “dear” or your anything. I am someone who will not be told what opinions I may or may not voice because it makes you uncomfortable or because goodness forbid I dare to disagree. Where does it state that only “happy thoughts” should be posted? Actually I am happy to post my honest opinion – I don’t like a tiny little piece of fiction – big deal. If you refuse to answer why you think it’s hate then fine. You stay in your unreal happy little world where no dislike is ever uttered. I’m sorry you have loads you dislike but are afraid to voice it. This is a perfect place to debate such things. I’m sorry you feel you can not. Whatever – stay happy!
I reject your label of hate – I dislike the angel story line and cas has had his day. I stand by all of that.

Just go reread your comment with a red pen and underline what you could have worded differently and then think about how wishing misery on a real life person can be taken as hateful. I thought you said you read my other comments “out of curiosity” – If the person that queried understood I thought maybe you would too.
It isn’t hard to think as there is nothing to think about. It’s a media website commenting on fictional TV characters – I do not have to stand in a virtual corner.
It may be unfair in your eyes but it still isn’t hate. Real hate is that suffered by the likes of James Byrd Jr. .
This is nothing close to hate. Mr Collins would probably laugh – I doubt he cares what I think or that he would see it as hate. I’ll ask next time we meet.
When you are able to reply how dislike is the same hate – I’ll be here. Yapping and barking and licking my own … No sorry mustn’t go there. Naughty dog.

Here’s a hint though, if someone is offended by your comment wishing misery on someone, then that is hate. If you can’t see the mistake you made and apologize then I really would not wish for my worst enemy to meet you. To have you waste more time on me is touching. I’m sorry you have no understanding of basic English.
You said you read other comments – if this is the case you will see to those that answered sensibly got both an explanation and an apology for my not making things easier to understand. The first sentence I wrote has the opposite meaning – It was used to get attention and draw a debate on storylines. To that end yes I failed miserably.
However, I mentioned a serious murder case trying to engage you in a real debate and treat you with respect. To show you what I believe hate to be. Instead of acknowledging that you persisted with your stupid version of hate. Cas isn’t real! Mr Byrd was and he died because of HATE – pure unadulterated hate. There are hundreds like him, sadly.
I am pleased to fail in your eyes because human life means more to me than a silly (albeit entertaining) fiction based TV programme.
I hope your life remains a happy positive environment and you never have to experience the kind of true hate, not dislike or distain but real hate, that costs others their lives.
Enjoy Supernatural and whatever storyline they come up with.
I wish you no ill. But please when enjoying the entertaining things in life – spare a moment to think of those who do experience HATE and all that entails.

I have to agree. You say you don’t hate Misha, but wishing him to “fail” – and not just fail but fail “miserably” – comes across as pretty hateful, even if that isn’t how you intended it/not how you actually feel about Misha.

Why still come back when I apologised? I was not meant as hate – it isn’t hate.
I simply desire change! Why is that so hard to grasp? I admit the tone is wrong but does that matter? Obviously not! All anyone see is “Oh she hates Misha” and that is it! The red mist comes down and it seems nobody wants to see from another’s view point.
I am tired of a fictional character – Is that so wrong?
People like the character – I’m fine with that – I do not presume to tell anyone how to think.

And that’s absolutely fine. I’m not attacking peoples love for the show – I watch for Cas, but I know others watch for the bros, or Dean etc. And I’m not saying you shouldn’t disagree – that’s how all great debates are born – and actually I agree with you on the angel story dragging out a bit. I’m just of the opinion that the angel story is not the be all and end all for Cas – I’m fully of the opinion that Cas could have a story outside of the angels, because I see him as part of the Winchester family. But if others don’t than that’s fine too. I’m just confused about the connection between disliking Cas and wanting Misha to fail is all. All that would likely happen is that Misha wouldn’t be allowed to direct again – that’s the part that confused me.

I am sorry you were confused. I appreciate you answering in a polite civilised manner. I am used to debating in a much different and highbrow manner and sometimes forget to “leave that brain at the door” when writing on social media. I forget there is a simpler way of speaking and for that I apologise. As I said to another, I will endeavour to keep it plain and simple so as to avoid confusion in the future. And no, that is NOT me saying you or anyone else is lowbrow – it is me telling myself to be more aware of where I am writing when.

I want a change – I want the brothers to react to something and somebody new is all. Is that so hard to understand? Why can I not like something without being accused of hate? I commented because I LIKE the Winchester brothers and their journey – It has just been stale and repetitive of late.
Why can I not comment on this without being accused of hate! I am sick of these all or nothing comments! We do not agree – it’s not the end of the world.
I normally ignore replies or even comment but I am so tired of being silenced because I have the temerity to disagree. Just because I dislike a character does not been I dislike the actor!
The failing in life is yours if you cannot accept that it is ok to agree to disagree. If you can continue to throw insults once an apology is made.
I guess I misjudged in hoping for an open discussion. I will however continue to disagree and put forward my opinion. I will however endeavour to keep the English plain and simple, so as not to be misconstrued.
No doubt I will still be accused of hate but I will no longer stay quiet. We are all entitled to an opinion – even if they are different to each others.

I do not hate Misha because he is adorable, but I completely agree, his character has long overstayed and I’m tired of fans crying that he is not involved with the boys! He is not one of them! And you can tell the writers are tired of him but are taking great strides to help his character remain relevant because of demanding fans. The angel storyline can continue to progress without Cas.
