‘The Following’ season 2, episode 8 preview: How do Ryan, Mike move forward?
When you have a show that has relied on violence as heavily as “The Following” has at times, it only makes some sense that you would start to feel a little bit number of everything. Not only that, it also makes sense that you would have a harder time trying to suspend belief.
We’re feeling completely messed-up still about what happened on tonight’s episode, which basically featured Emma being thrown into the fray as a tool for human sacrifice, and Mike’s father being brutally murdered at the hands of Lily. All of this was yet another reminder that we seem to have no problem for whatever reason with this sort of crazy violence on network TV. We keep watching, don’t we?
This next new episode is entitled “The Messenger,” and if you look at the synopsis below, you can at least try to figure out where some of the characters are going to go next:
“After a tragic turn of events, Ryan attempts to find the man who originally taught Joe to kill, in hopes of finding new answers. Meanwhile, at the compound, Joe tries to get his bearings, while Emma and Mandy wait for him to reveal his new plan.”
The promo basically gives it away that Hardy does end up finding the man, but doesn’t really give a whole lot else away. The only thing that we are really surprised about at this point is that his niece Max is somehow still alive against all odds. How in the world did that happen? We’re still more worried about her than anyone else, especially given that the last thing that you really expect to see with this show is for Kevin Bacon’s character to actually have someone stick around in his life that he loves.

The thing I’ve missed the most this season is the lack of interaction between Joe and Ryan. We are now up to episode 8 and so far Joe and Ryan have had no contact. Just the brief glimpse from the window. My favorite scenes from last season were those which KB and JP shared. They are the reason I watch the show. Even their phone calls from last year upped the tension. This season feels flat to me. I keep waiting to see some sizzle between the two of them, and each week has brought nothing. disappointing. On the upside, I continue to enjoy Joe’s sense of humor. JP really has some great lines. International House of Psychos – hah! Mandy – where is home? Joe – Hell if I know. Hah!
