ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6, episode 15 review: Was there really a new Carrie?
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” was a heck of a fun episode of “Castle,” and all in all, we have to say that it was one of our favorites … even if it did have a good many flaws to it at the same time.
Let’s start with the bad part of this episode: Both the victim’s father and a supposed training center for people with telekinesis were both loose threads that were not really tied up at all. Not only that, but the reveal of one of the victim’s teenage friends as a killer was so completely out of left field, mostly because there had been almost no indication that this was where we were heading with this story at all.
But, let’s turn now to the positives … since there were so many of them to really smile and celebrate. For one, Rick is back in full-on conspiracy mode! We always find that to be a plus when it comes to this show, since Nathan Fillion has such a great comedic presence. This in turn led to some great stuff when it comes to him trying to prove his theory correct, and doing so within the grounds of a school that he even attended at one point during his life. It was all a nice little slice of “Castle” that reminded us of some of the earlier seasons and the less-emotional storylines.
Also, there were some great Beckett moments in here as well, mostly because it felt like Stana Katic was very much well aware of how tongue-in-cheek almost this entire story really was. Nothing was meant to be taken that seriously, and this made the story much more effective. Grade: B.
