‘The Flash’: ‘Arrow’ spin-off casts Candice Patton as Iris West
“The Flash” has made one of its biggest castings to date, and they have now found the right person for the role of Iris West. If you are very familiar with the DC Comics series, then you probably already know a thing or two about who she is.
For those who are unfamiliar with West, what we’ll tell you for the time being is that she is Barry Allen’s best friend, an intelligent and quick young woman who is also the daughter of Barry’s mentor-of-sorts Detective West (played on the show by Jesse L. Martin).
So who has been brought in for this big role? According to Deadline, Candice Patton (“The Game”) has scored the coveted role as Iris, and will be a key component in both the pilot and presumably the rest of the show moving forward. This pilot will be filmed soon and directed by David Nutter, who is the same man responsible for the original “Arrow” pilot.
For those unfamiliar with pilot processes, the way in which things will work with “The Flash” is that after viewing the episode, The CW’s executives will decide whether or not they want to move forward most likely by the time of their May upfronts. It will then be put on the air, if it goes through, and handed a 13-episode order. After some of the early ratings go in, they will figure out whether or not it is worthy of a full season. At the moment, we would consider this to be their most-coveted property for the fall. Not only is “Arrow” one of their highest-rated shows, but it performs well around the globe and has the best critical response out of anything on the network.
One other important thing here to remember is that even though Iris has a specific outcome in the comics, don’t guarantee anything for the show. After all, “Arrow” has found something in Felicity that was not part of the original plan.
