‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ lands first interview with New York City mayor Bill de Blasio

The Daily Show with Jon StewartReady for a story that will only impact a percentage of people who not only watch “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” and also live in the New York area? Then this is going to be right up your alley.

On Monday night’s edition of the show, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, the first Democratic Mayor of the city in decades, is going to appear in what is his first late-night interview since taking office. So why is this significant to viewers outside of New York? One of the big reasons is simply that it is the largest city in America, and policies that are discussed or brought to the table in the Big Apple can have a trickle-down effect to some other cities.

As for why Mayor de Blasio chose Jon Stewart to conduct his late-night initiation, we can think of two reasons why.

1. Stewart’s show is one that does incorporate a discussion of politics, and there isn’t really going to be too many frills. While Jon will get you to laugh, he will also ask you serious, pertinent questions about what you plan to do in office. Unlike Jimmy Fallon, we don’t see Jon making him play silly games; meanwhile, David Letterman would probably spend most of an interview with him either making him read a silly top-ten list, or trying to get under his skin.

2. Also, Stewart has made his own political leanings pretty clear on the show, and there are some similarities here in terms of philosophy.

Stewart’s show has by and large continued its winning ways of late, remaining a dominant force in the late-night market despite a landscape that has changed regular over the years. With “@midnight,” Comedy Central has found a way now to extend their entire late-night programming block to 90 minutes.
