‘Black Sails’ off to solid start for Starz across various platforms

Black Sails -While we would not go as far as to say just yet that “Black Sails” has found buried treasure, the new Starz series is at least well on its way now to showing that it was at least a worthwhile investment for the network to make.

Across all of its various platforms, which include on-demand viewing and streaming of the first episode (which was made available early), the show scored around 3.5 million viewers. This is the best launch ever for a new series on Starz, and it does bode well for the future if they can find a way to get this audience coming back with every subsequent weekend.

One nice thing that the producers of the show do not have to worry about right now is whether or not they are going to be forced to abandon ship this year. Starz has already made the move to renew the show for another season, which is something that many networks often decide to do when it comes to some of their programs. Since these take so long to produce, they like to ensure that both the writers and the network have time to work. Not only that, but executives want to also make sure that they are not missing out on something that could become a pretty significant hit over time.

The real test is going to come over the course of next weekend, which is when there won’t be the pre-show streaming numbers for the show to fall back on. They have to hope that there was something addictive about “Black Sails,” since Saturday nights are otherwise the spot that many TV shows go to die.
