2014 SAG Awards: Ty Burrell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus among winners (live updates)

The 2014 SAG Awards did not always give us the most unpredictable nominations from the TV world. Instead, they just gave us nominees that have been around a while, and shows that you should know very well. What does this mean to us? More than anything, that actors spend so much time acting that they don’t have much time to catch up with new programming.

Nonetheless, we’re here to give you updates as the night progresses, so be sure to come back to this page and refresh often. We’ll have them all for you as they arrive.

Actress in a Comedy Series – Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep” – Did you really have any doubt at all about who was going to win this one? There may have been potential for an upset, but that doesn’t always mean that one is going to happen. She’s just so good on this show, which also improved with its second season. Her speech was another great take on her Emmy gaga, where she had another member of Selina Meyer’s “team” helping her out.

Actor in a Comedy Series – Ty Burrell, “Modern Family” – We’ve made jokes over the years about this show inning everything, but this is the first time that Ty has actually won a SAG Award. More than anything else, we really should be happy that Alec Baldwin didn’t win again since he wasn’t there. (For whatever reason, the guild seems to love every thing that does.)

Comedy Ensemble – “Modern Family.” This one is slightly more irritating, since it is an award that this show always seems to win. Then again, the competition this year was “Veep” (which never gets love as an overall show), “The Big Bang Theory” (“too popular” for snobby voters), “30 Rock” (which has been over for almost a year now), and “Arrested Development” (which everyone watched in two days on Netflix).

Actress in a Miniseries / TV Movie – Helen Mirren, “Phil Spector.” Here’s an interesting note for Helen. She has been nominated TEN times, and has won five of them. Her speech was all sorts of amazing.

Actor in a Miniseries / TV Movie – Michael Douglas, “Behind the Candelabra.” Somehow, Michael Douglas has never won an individual SAG Awards before.

Actress in a Drama Series – Maggie Smith, “Downton Abbey.” SAG loves “Downton Abbey,” and it also loves Maggie despite the fact that she never shows up for any of these shows.

Actor in a Drama Series – Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad.” Sure, there were some other worthy winners, but let’s be honest: Wouldn’t you have been upset if anyone else won? That’s the problem many ran into here.

Drama Series Ensemble – “Breaking Bad.” Call this the least-surprising news ever that “Breaking Bad” came out on top. Everyone knew that they would, and they deserved to.
