‘The Mentalist’ season 6 spoilers: More information on Patrick Jane’s new ‘date’
Fans of “The Mentalist,” it appears as though Patrick Jane’s romantic life may be buzzing again very soon when the show returns to television on January 5, but not exactly in the way that you would think.
Earlier this month, you probably heard the casting news that there was going to be a guest star that Patrick asks on a date, and this in some way marks one of his first real attempts that he makes at a personal life since the end of the Red John case. But, as the synopsis below for “White Lines” so perfectly teases, there is going to be something more at play here when it comes to him trying to help out the case:
“The FBI is tasked with finding the killer of several DEA agents, and Jane goes on a date with a beautiful woman associated with the case.”
We have a hard time imagining that this date is strictly for romantic purposes, and if it is, it probably won’t end well. At this point, everyone associated with the show is well aware of the affection fans have for Jane and Lisbon, and they are not trying at all to ignore it. This is why there were a few hints dropped in “Green Thumb” about something down the road. This is just going to be a slow burn before the subject is really ever addressed; while Jane may be ready for romance now, he does have to switch that part of his brain off where he originally saw Lisbon as a partner, and switch over to the part that could see her as something more. There may have been flickers in the past, but now it has to be permanent.

Bruno Heller has been a great showrunner of The Mentalist and Simon Baker is a very talented actor/director. I trust them, the writers and the cast with the show and look forward to every episode they’re allowed to make. I hope there’s a 7th season. Simon deserves an Emmy nomination for his acting in “Red John”.

I loved it. Lisbon reading Jane’s letters. Jane and Lisbon’s reunion. Cho giving credit where it was due and getting the tech promoted. I love Jane messing with the FBI.
