We have seen the appearance of a number of iconic villains on “Once Upon a Time” season 3 so far, but there is also one coming up that comes from a very different sort of mythology than many others: Medusa. This Greek figure, known for turning anyone into stone who gazes upon her, is going to at least get a major shout-out in Sunday’s “The New Neverland” courtesy of Snow White.
So why is she mentioned? It’s all thanks to a plan that Ginnifer Goodwin’s character has hatched via flashbacks in order to put Regina in her place, or at least try to stop her from being such a consistent threat to her well-being. She is trying to hunt down her place of “residence” (if you can call it that), while Charming tries his best to dissuade her. Why is that? He’s got a heck of a reason: It’s the couple’s honeymoon, and he would understandable prefer to spend the day actually spending time with each other rather than trying to fixate on Regina yet again … especially with someone so dangerous.
Now, let’s take a minute to put on a conspiracy cap and wonder something: Is it any coincidence that the casting of Rebecca Mader (“Lost”) in a new villainous role came out a day before this sneak peek? It might be, but having her eventually play Medusa in the second half of next season would be a welcome surprise. We know that Cruella DeVille was a hot topic of speculation thanks to a recent Pongo reference, but Archie’s dog has been mentioned many times before. One of the other popular theories has been the Wicked Witch of the West from “The Wizard of Oz,” but there has been little reference that the show is planning to bring us into that world at any point in the near future. Note that this is just pure speculation for the fun of it, and not based on anything other than what could be coincidental.
Let’s frame our post-story question here as such: What do you think of Snow resorting to such drastic measures, and do you think that this is meant to be any clue about Mader playing Medusa? Share your thoughts below!
