‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Paul Rudd, Vanessa Bayer freak out over One Direction
Is this one of the first times that Vanessa Bayer has been featured in a “Saturday Night Live” promo? It may not be, but we really can’t think of when the last time she was a part of one.
But this promo with Paul Rudd is one part funny, and one part really strange. There are some good moments in here all about One Direction appearing as the musical guest, including watching the two freak out about it. There was also a good line all about how Paul prepared for his role in “Anchorman 2.” But, at the same time, this is a typical “SNL” promo in that there’s not really anything in here that is just fall-over hilarious. The writers probably know that most of the diehard viewers are going to be tuning in anyway, and the biggest thing that they should be focused on is just trying to deliver an entertaining show.
We do like the decision in the end to bring Paul back as host, mostly thanks to one simple thing: He’s a funny guy who is not afraid to do a variety of characters. He’s probably not flashy in the sense that he’s going to pull in big ratings, but he doesn’t have a huge ego and will work well within the family of the show. Lorne Michaels likes guys like that, and this coupled with the release of his upcoming movie was clearly enough of a reason to decide to see a little more of him.
Do you think that Rudd is going to be a great addition to “SNL” this weekend, and is there any one thing in particular that you’re hoping to see? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and click here if you want to watch some other highlights from this season so far.
