2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: Carrie Underwood talks ‘The Sound of Music Live’

Macy's Parade -A week from tonight, Carrie Underwood is going to be appearing on a special that NBC has been promoting the heck out of in “The Sound of Music Live.” This is such a huge risk for the network to take, especially when you think about the likely budget for this, and the fact that this is such an iconic franchise. Typically in this business, you get a pretty good idea about whether or not something is going to be a ratings hit and this is more of a complete unknown, since there has been almost nothing like it.

We wonder whether or not some were tuning in to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade expecting that they were going to be seeing Carrie perform on the show. Instead, what we ended up having here was a performance of “16 Going on 17” from some of the other cast members, and then a brief interview with Carrie, Matt Lauer (sporting an absolutely terrifying beard), and also Savannah Guthrie.

Carrie admitted that they were getting closer than ever to finishing up the musical, but it is still quite a bit of pressure for them to take on:

“We still have a week to prepare, but it’s coming along really wonderfully … ‘The Sound of Music’ is just this big legacy, and it’s such a big story. We just want to do it justice.”

Carrie does have some star power joining her in the musical in “True Blood’s” Stephen Moyer, who also has some experience acting both in TV and on stage. This is what makes this performance all the riskier for Carrie; while she has done some TV acting (see “How I Met Your Mother”) and has also performed on stage a billion or so times, this is a little different.
