‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Co-creator shares ‘How I Met Your Dad’ details

CBS -Over the past 24 hours, “How I Met Your Mother” fans / the internet have made their opinions very known when it comes to the surprising news that there will be a “spin-off” series, entitled “How I Met Your Dad,” that could air on CBS in the fall. This show has just passed the initial development phase, and the network is at least ordering a pilot for it.

But before we dive any deeper into speculating about this, let’s clarify a few things that were originally rumored out there about the pilot. In a post on Twitter, co-creator Craig Thomas explained that there will not be any sort of introduction to the new characters on the original show this season. We would’ve loved some sort of wink-and-a-nudge towards them in maybe the finale, possibly as an attendant to the wedding; but, we also understand the interest in actually creating a brand-new world for the characters, that way you don’t ever have to explain anything that is tied to the original show.

Thomas also would not say one way or another whether or not the iconic show bar MacLaren’s would be included on “How I Met Your Dad,” but we’re still hoping for that, if nothing else, just to at least give us a little sense as to the history of this version of New York City (actually filmed in Los Angeles). Craig and his fellow co-creator Carter Bays are working with Emily Spivey (“Up All Night”) on this new show, and while pilots are never a guarantee to be taken as a network series, we do think that the odds of this being picked up are high. New CBS comedies have struggled as of late, with “The Big Bang Theory” really being the last remaining smash hit (and it’s seven years old). This is at least worthy of the risk, even if it doesn’t end up working out.

As for “How I Met Your Mother” itself, click here if you want to see a sneak peek for Monday’s “Mom and Dad,” which is going to be both very funny and very, very awkward.
