‘American Idol XIII’: Harry Connick Jr. has fun with Mariah Carey – ‘devil’ comment

The logo -Harry Connick Jr. should go ahead and be attributed as even more than just the judge on “American Idol XIII” airing next year; he should also get a credit for being the show’s official hype man. Not only does the guy have an eagerness to be on the show and a sense of humor, but he’s willing to even throw it into the headlines and have some fun with some stories that are out there.

For example, remember the crazy comments from Mariah Carey earlier this week, where she compared working on the show last year to being in “hell” with “Satan”? Well, Harry has come up with a couple of funny responses via Twitter, where he makes the same obvious assumption that Satan is none other than Nicki Minaj, and that the show has also ascended to a much happier place this year with a panel (including Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban in addition to himself) that actually gets along and is happy:

“When @MariahCarey spoke of “satan” she wasn’t referring to @NICKIMINAJ. it was @KeithUrban. he’s hot and plays the hell out of the guitar. [Hey] @MariahCarey – must’ve been hard to judge in hell… @AmericanIdol XIII is heaven! @JLo @KeithUrban @RyanSeacrest @YO_RANDYJACKSON

For whatever reason, possibly after having to deal with some angry Carey fans, Connick added to his statement by saying that he does love Mariah as a person, and he just feels bad for her that she does not get the gift of the best ‘American Idol’ ever.” That’s a heck of a big statement from a guy given that there has yet to be a single live show, but we like confidence. We’d rather hear people touting the new season as something great over them just saying that we’re in for an okay group of singers and twists. We’re excited about the new creative team and the new panel. Plus, we imagine that with the way that this current season of “The X Factor” is going, there is absolutely no way that it can be worse than that.

Do you like Connick’s confidence, or feel like it’s jumping the gun to say anything that grandiose about the season over a month before it airs? Sound off in the comments below!
