‘NCIS’ season 11 spoilers: Is Mark Harmon’s Gibbs ditching a case?
You knew that it was coming eventually on “NCIS,” and how it is official: Ralph Waite is going to be coming back to the CBS hit pretty soon in his role of Jackson Gibbs. Not only that, but his presence could actually lead to a surprising change in the middle of another case.
What we are talking about here is the show’s upcoming episode “Better Angels,” which airs a week from Tuesday on November 5. This is still one prior to the arrival of Emily Wickersham as Bishop, and it feels like it will be very heavy on the guys as we see a power battle between Tony and McGee as they try to each lead an investigation in their own way. The official synopsis below via CBS should provide you with a few more details:
“After Gibbs leaves mid-case to help his father reconnect with a former war pilot, Tony and McGee argue over who should run lead on the team’s investigation into the murder of a Marine Sergeant.”
So hopefully, what we expect to see here is a mixture of both comedy and drama. It is no real coincidence at all, though, that this is the time in which we are seeing Waite return to the show, since this is November, and the first time really all year where networks try to really pull out all of the big guns to surprise people. Expect some more major events to take place the rest of the month, and it will lead to a pretty significant midseason finale to help set the stage for everything coming up in the spring. That’s when we will really start to get a sense of the Bishop character, and learn if she is going to be sticking around the show long-term. (If there has been a decision made on the subject, CBS is staying mum about it for now.)

Since Tony is the Senior Field agent there had better be a really great reason why there’s any argument at all – or phrases such as jumping the shark are going to start spring to mind….

It was my understanding “senior field agent” meant just that … senior. While the “your lead, your case” rule could apply, I do wish the writers would keep in mind the rules of seniority. Meaning, most senior in in command.

Looking forward to seeing Jackson Gibbs again but have to second Lizabeth’s comment. You’d think the words ‘senior field agent’ would be indelibly a part of the character bio on DiNozzo by now….

Pardon me, people at NCIS, but as Gibbs’ senior agent and Second in Command, whenever Gibbs is otherwise occupied, Tony will always be in charge. I do so wish they would remember that.
