‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5, episode 4 video: Matt desperately looks for Jeremy’s help

Matt -The producers of “The Vampire Diaries” were not kidding when they said that they had a couple of surprises in store for Matt Donovan this season. Is he still a background character? Hardly. With the departures of the Originals in mind, Zach Roerig’s role is suddenly in the forefront, especially when it comes to figuring out why he keeps blacking out.

The simply explanation per Jeremy, at least in the sneak peek video below from Thursday night’s new episode, is that he could be suffering the same sort of side-effects that we saw take place with Alaric courtesy of the Gilbert ring. But is the show really going down that road again, one that could eventually lead to the death of this character? We don’t imagine so, mostly because that would take away from probably the most heartbreaking moment ever on the show in seeing Alaric eventually lose himself. Luckily, Matt doesn’t think it is because of the ring, either, and rather what a certain someone has done to his head.

There is one person who he does believe can help him … but unfortunately they are dead, and their ghost email has not been working out so well as of late: Bonnie. Matt’s worried that she is mad at him and won’t help, and that is why he goes to Jeremy. We really imagine that Steven R. McQueen is going to be working with almost every actor on the show at some point because of Bonnie, because he is her vessel. Unless they find a way to bring her back from the other side, there’s no other way to seek her out. Thus far, we’ve liked this story a little bit more than we initially expected to when it first began. Therefore, we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out the rest of the way. Can they really keep this secret such forever? We doubt it, but we would not be shocked if it stays a secret for at least a couple of weeks longer.
