‘The Biggest Loser’ season 15 premiere review: Trainer ‘save’ changes the game

Craig Arrington brings his A game on The Biggest LoserWe expected NBC to shake it up for “The Biggest Loser” season 15 and we were not disappointed.

We’ve got some famous faces on the show this season. First of all we have the winner of the second season of “American Idol” in Ruben Studdard who we absolutely adored on Idol and still loved watching tonight. He’s got an infectious personality that makes it hard not to want to root for him in any challenge he takes on, especially since we already know from Idol just how much of himself he puts into everything. We also have Holley Mangold an Olympic weightlifter and Rachel Frederickson a former Olympic swimmer that gave up her career for a relationship that didn’t work out.

When it comes to the workouts, we expected them to be just as tough and brutal as they were in past seasons and let us tell you that they were really tough as we watched the contestants pushing themselves to the point of throwing up. These trainers are ready to make their teams hurt in a big bad way.

After picking teams and working out for the week we ended up at the inevitable elimination chamber. There are a couple of new twists in play: They removed the yellow line in the weigh in tonight and only had the red line and no vote, meaning that the person on the losing team with the lowest percentage of weight loss will automatically be going home. Now before you start cursing at your TV sets there is another twist! Each trainer has a ‘save’ that they can use on one member of their team and Jillian Michaels is quick to warn her team that she may not use it at all and that they need to rely on themselves to be saved, not her.

Once the weight in was complete our absolute favorite Craig Arrington (on Jillian’s team) came up way short and fell below the red line helping to bring Jillian’s team their first loss. It was so crazy heartbreaking because we love love love Craig, he’s so endearing and it’s easy to see how much he wants this. As hard as Jillian is and as much smoke as she blew about not using the trainers save she totally used it on Craig and our boy is back in the game! No one is eliminated.

We love the new twists and we love the cast this season. After an intense premiere we are really excited about what the rest of this season is going to bring us. Grade: B+
