‘NCIS’ season 11 spoilers: Michael Weatherly’s Tony returns to familiar setting
What is going to happen to Tony now that Ziva is gone from “NCIS“? He’s going to miss her, but how can he not try to move forward with his job? The last thing that we imagine Ziva would want from him is throwing himself a massive pity party, even if some fans understandably want to see him a little bit sad.
So for now, what CBS seems to have planned out is to try to use this season as an opportunity to explore a little bit more of his past. Michael Weathlerly’s character will be going back to his police days on the new episode “Once a Crook” airing a week from Tuesday; as the official synopsis from CBS teases, he will be also exploring a little bit of his past solving cases:
“DiNozzo returns to his Baltimore Police Department days when he sees a felony suspect from a 15-year-old case at the NCIS crime scene of a murdered Petty Officer.”
Sound like an interesting case? We’re stoked to see him exploring more as to why he is now the awesome investigator and all-around cool guy that he is now, even if it means battling some of his demons in the process. The last thing producers want to do is suddenly make Tony fans start rocking back and forth anxiously, waiting for that next exciting thing to arrive (especially since the future of Cote de Pablo is up to her and the producers of the show).
Also worth noting for McGee fans? This episode features the return of Margo Harshman as Delilah, his girlfriend who we last saw during the season premiere. We can only hope that the oh-so awkward encounters between her and Abby continue; not because we like to see Pauley Perrette’s character suffer, but because this love triangle of sorts may be one of the best sources of entertainment left on the show.
It won’t be too long after this episode that Emily Wickersham’s role of Bishop will be unveiled, and you can read a little bit more about that at the link here. We’re also going to have more on the “NCIS” ratings watch soon, as we start to see whether or not the show starts to really suffer without Cote in the cast long-term. (It certainly did not get off to a great start this past week.)

Yes, by all means let Tony, and the rest of the characters, move forward. He spent four months looking for Ziva, only to have her shoot him down and push him away. Why should he pine for a character that never really thought him good enough, and ultimately chose “honoring” Gibbs instead of a life with the guy who was “fighting for her”? As far as the ratings, considering the show is in it’s 11th season, and that the latest episode’s ratings were close to last season’s third episode, I don’t know why some are smugly saying the show is done. Realistically, how many shows can keep up those high ratings after 11 years? As Gibbs said, she moved on and so are we. Some choose to move on from the show, and some with it. Your choice. No need for all the negativity and bashing.

Yes, thank you. While I loved Tiva, it bothers me that Ziva has repeatedly rejected Tony, a man who has repeatedly fought for her. If she returns, she should have to fight for him. And I agree with you about the “honoring Gibbs” over building a life with Tony. That also really stung me as a viewer. It must have stung Tony–it showed on his face.

I can’t wait to see your take on the ratings, Matt. Am anxious to see what happens as the weeks go by.

Tony was a richly-layered well-developed character on NCIS before there ever was a Ziva. A lot of fans are excited about seeing the development for this character again, as his character development was all but dropped in favor of Tiva storylines.
