‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6: Director talks Katey Sagal – Ron Perlman scene in ‘The Mad King’

The latest -For most “Sons of Anarchy” fans, the moment that took place in “The Mad King” that merited the most conversation was that stunning explosion that took place at the end of the episode. This was a moment that devastated SAMCRO to its very core, since they no longer have the one thing that they have relied on for so long: A sanctuary to call their home and conduct their business. Without that, they are clearly in a much more desperate and vulnerable state.

But what we are a little bit more interested in talking about today is what to us was the devastating scene where Gemma was forced to give herself to Clay in prison. You could see the pain in the eyes of both Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman’s characters; you know that there was once love that was there, but it has since drifted thanks to everything terrible that they have went through.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about what the decision-making process was for Gemma when facing the critical choice, “The Mad King’s” director Gwyneth Horder-Payton had the following to say:

“We went back and forth about what she should put out during this, and really, it was that she’s gonna do it because she had to, and so they wouldn’t beat Clay up, and then she was gonna put herself back together, as she always does, and walk out the door feeling humiliated. But it’s gonna pass, because she’s been through so much already. She’s good at that.”

For us, the moment that was actually just as painful to watch was at the end here, where Gemma announced at the bar that if there was one thing that she would want, it would be to have the last few hours of her life back.
