‘America’s Next Top Model: Guys & Girls’ review: The Marvin show

The latest -Today on “America’s Next Top Model,” we start off by talking about the Marvin Show. The guy is a pretty great character, and is constantly entertaining even when he is not exactly stable. At one point, he went off about missing people, saying that he is not used to being alone after growing up with all of his siblings in a tiny house. We get that, but from going to that to freaking out all over Chris? Okay, dude…

First challenge – What in the world was this all about, and what was Kelly Cutrone doing with an umbrella in sunny weather? This was so ridiculous, we couldn’t even try to pay attention to the trivia questions. Here’s something else worth noting to Phil: If you know less than us about fashion and the history of the show, you have a major problem. You were given a money value based on how well you did in the quiz, and the dude only had $25 to work with.

Somehow, we still think Phil got lucky with a 5 score (tied for last), even though we don’t think he was making a mockery of it. He was just buying what he could for the budget! Don won, which we found somewhat surprising given that he did not exactly look that startling.

Photo shoot – Seeing some of these action shots of paint being flung at the models was cool. Seeing Tyra Banks be all self-indulgent with photos of herself as other models is so off-putting and not particularly relevant. Then again, it’s her party and she can pose if she wants to.

There’s not really that much interesting that took place here, since it was mostly the same people doing well (Jourdan, who finds a way to include her failed marriage into almost every episode), and the same people in danger (Jiana and Phil). Basically, it was clear that the latter two were going to be in the most danger from the end of this, and we did not need a panel to tell us anything.

Elimination – There is some poetry in that these two, who have been awkwardly flirtatious all season long, would be the two in trouble. This all came down to fan votes, and for whatever reason, Phil stayed despite most of the audience making fun of him. The sad / funny part of this was Phil trying to hug her, and her ducking and crying at the same time. She will get another shot, but she has to figure out what to do with her body at some point while doing some of the next photo shoots. Meanwhile, Phil is a marked man.

What did you think about this episode, and do you think it’s possible to root for someone who is as all-over-the-place as Marvin? If you want to read some other reviews from this season, just be sure to click here.
