‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 17 spotlight: Christina Milian and Mark Ballas

Meet Christina -For whatever reason, we find the idea of Christina Milian on “Dancing with the Stars” this season to be both hilarious and irritating at the same time. Based on the news that was announced earlier this summer, the “Dip It Low” singer chose to leave “The Voice,” where she held the much-panned role of social media correspondent, in order to focus on her music. So if that’s the case, why is she here? It also feels like a weird sort of loyalty (as in, no loyalty at all) to join a show that is a direct timeslot competitor to “The Voice” not even a season removed from leaving it.

That’s all we will say about that for now, since there is some dance to talk here with a woman who is probably going to make it pretty far on this season.

Professional partner – Mark Ballas. Mark is a popular pro and a champion multiple times over, and he is also someone known for putting out some pretty great choreography. Do he and Derek Hough typically get some of the best people? Sure, but they are two of the longest-tenured guys at this point behind only Tony Dovolani.

Strengths – She may not be trained in ballroom, but Milian is no stranger at all to choreography. It’s the bread and butter of pop stars, and “Dip It Low” is basically a song about a suggestive dance move. She’s in great shape, experienced in live TV, and is going to probably love not having to read a teleprompter and interview contestants using Twitter questions.

Weaknesses – We hinted at this at the start of the article, but are people going to want to root for her? She’s such a clear favorite from the get-go, and it’s hard sometimes to root for someone who is not the underdog. Even though she has been a regular presence on TV, we don’t quite know what her fan following is right now.

Prediction – Christina will find fans simply because she’s a good dancer, and that is why we believe she is going to be around until at least the final six or five. Ultimately, we see her being a Zendaya type: She gets the best scores, but loses out barely in the finale thanks to the viewer vote backing someone else.
