ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: Shonda Rhimes on ‘attraction’ between Olivia, Fitz

At this point in the run of “Scandal,” we imagine that the pattern is pretty set in stone. You have two characters in Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant who clearly do love each other on a certain level, but continually face roadblocks time and time again when it come to being together. They ramp up their affair, at least until something comes along that starts to derail it. From there, the story morphs into something where the two end up splitting again, as Fitz realizes that he needs to try and make his relationship with Mellie work.

So are we going to see something similar happen again this year? Based on what executive producer Shonda Rhimes is saying now to TVLine, it sure seems like it:

“When we come into the season, Mellie does have things managed on the marital front. But I think Fitz and Liv have an inexplicable attraction to one another. People may be surprised to discover what certain motives are in the situations they’ve been working in.”

Out biggest surprise right now is the idea of Fitz having an okay marriage when the show returns, mostly because we are in a position at this point where the secret about the affair is out there. For the first time, Mellie is actually going to feel a little bit of pressure from the public when it comes to the man that she is with, and needs to figure out just what she wants to do about that.

Just in case you’re not really interested in Olivia and Fitz (which makes us wonder slightly why you’re still reading), there are other subjects here at the site worth reading about, including the latest when it comes to Huck and his past.
