‘Glee’ season 5 spoilers: Naya Rivera confirms Demi Lovato will play love interest

The moment that we first heard that Demi Lovato and Naya Rivera were going to be doing a duet on “Glee” season 5, there was one thought that inevitably crawled into our brain: These two characters of Santana and Dani were definitely going to be romancing each other on the new season.

Well, luckily the news is now official that Demi will be playing a new love interest. Rivera confirmed the following last night to MTV (see the video below) while celebrating the 2013 Video Music Awards in Brooklyn, and said that she is more than excited to see what happens with her on board. This is a casting that many Lovatics are clearly already celebrating, as it marks an opportunity for their idol to do her first major acting gig since “Sonny with a Chance” back on the Disney Channel. Given that she is only set to be in six episodes, though, it is probably going to be pretty easy to figure out whether or not this relationship lasts in the long-term.

As for where Santana’s longtime love interest is, Heather Morris will be gone for at least the fall half of the season, if not longer, thanks to her pregnancy and maternity leave. While the hope is obviously that she could turn up near the end of season 5, there is no confirmation on anything right now.

Demi’s casting also works as great cross-promotion for season 3 of “The X Factor,” which features her as a judge along with Simon Cowell, Paulina Rubio, and Kelly Rowland.
