‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Ian Somerhalder’s ‘controversy’ with ‘The Originals’ comments

Ian -The following is something that we have perpetually found to be extremely irritating when it comes to the way in which we look at celebrities. Whenever they present a soundbyte that is boring and rather predictable, we attack them and accuse them of being a mouthpiece for the network. Then, when they actually say something shockingly honest, we call them “jerks” and say that they should have never spoken out in the first place.

We’ve certainly seen quite a bit of the latter reaction already to the comments that Ian Somerhalder made recently about “The Vampire Diaries” spin-off show “The Originals,” and how he has some concerns about if his own show can reload after losing so many actors who were valuable parts of the cast. Just take a look at his comments below via Digital Spy:

“I’m excited for Julie [Plec], and for Joseph [Morgan] and all my people, but I’m a selfish actor – I’m not a producer on the show, I’m not a writer. My only concern is Damon, and my show.

“Now, they’re going to be taking these characters that mean so much to our show. I’m insanely happy for everyone, but I’m not thrilled. Not that I mind sharing, I just don’t want to lose all these amazing actors on our show.”

So really, Ian is giving these people a compliment by saying how much they will be missed on the show, and of course he’s not going to be thrilled with not having their energy around. As for a concern that he expressed about whether or not the show can find capable actors who can provide both the necessarily look and personality, that’s also understandable given that there is only so much time to cast.

Basically, Ian is getting blasted by some for just saying what we and so many others are worried about. While it’s nice to see “The Vampire Diaries” return to its core, just one or two missteps could put the show in trouble in an age where there are so many other TV options out there for people to enjoy.

Click here if you want to see Somerhalder discuss something else that is very important to the show: The relationship between Damon and Elena moving forward.
