‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: A roadblock for Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev to play

Delena fans, you know that the start of “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 is probably going to be pretty fun for you. Not only are Damon and Elena going to be together, but they could actually be (major surprise alert) happy for one of the few times in their relationship. In a world where so many negative things are happening on a near-constant basis, the idea of happiness for these two lasting is pretty unlikely.

Yesterday, we wrote about a new casting that could disrupt everything, as a new guy will be arriving at Whitmore College that could stir the pot, even if he is not technically a “love interest” per se (the jury is still out on that). Now, we have something extra to add to that, which may or may not be related. According to E! News, there is going to be a major stumbling block for Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder’s characters to go up against over the first half of this season … and it’s not going to be supernatural at all.

So what could it be? The most likely explanations are another guy or girl causing problems in the relationship, or college eating up so much of Elena’s time that her relationship takes a back seat. Then again, the latter seems unlikely; how much have you really seen schoolwork play a role in anything on this show over the years? Yes, college is different than high school, but still.
