‘Bones’ season 9 spoilers: First details on Sweets’ new profession

What's ahead -If you’ve been following some of our stories related to “Bones” over the past several months, then you may have heard something already about Sweets taking on a different set of skills (and a new goal) on this upcoming ninth season. After what we went through when it comes to Pelant, it is certainly understandable that the man could use a little bit of a break.

But is he really going to enjoy this new job? That is what we have some skepticism on right now, but TVLine reports (via executive producer Stephen Nathan) that the new responsibility the character is taking on is something that is rather sweet and well-intentioned: Trying to help young, underprivileged children avoid lives of crime through mentoring, counseling, and whatnot.

While this story may or may not be a part of Sweets’ story in the long-term, we’re thrilled that it is there to at least give the character something new. It also makes a little bit of sense when you put yourself in the character’s position. Are you really going to be able to keep doing everything that you were previously after going through so many dangerous situations? On a psychological level, eventually everything is going to start to rattle you, and you may feel a desire to try to take on some more challenges at the ground level rather than trying to fight them in a different form.

What do you think of the idea of seeing something different like this for Sweets? If you want more scoop on Booth and Brennan, don’t worry: We’ve also got some of that for you over at the link here.

“Bones” season 9 premieres on Fox on Monday, September 16 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
