‘Glee’ season 5: New Cory Monteith tributes from Idina Menzel, Alex Newell

Cory MonteithWhile many of “Glee’s” cast and crew have chosen to stay silent in the wake of Cory Monteith’s tragic passing on Saturday night, we are starting to hear a few more messages of grief and support from assorted people who knew him on the Fox show over the past several years. Not all of them appeared with him in that many scenes, but they were a part of the same collective family, and spent time getting to know him and some of the other co-stars.

Perhaps one of the most poignant messages we woke up to today came from Idina Menzel, who has been around the show as Shelby Corcoran (Rachel’s mother) since the second half of season 1. With one post, she likely helped to explain to many why it is so difficult for many people who knew Cory to speak out about his death right now:

“i hate twitter @ time like this.nothing i write will convey my sadness for [Cory] & all who loved him.”

Meanwhile, Alex Newell became one of the first people of McKinley 2.0 (the newer group of students who first made their present felt last year) to speak out about the subject with a post of his own:

“Today my performance will be for Cory. He was and will always be an amazing person and I cherish the time that I got to spend with him!”

We do know that we will hear from many others about Cory and the sort of love and energy that he brought to this show, but it is going to take a little bit of time for them to grieve properly before facing the world, even in a forum like Twitter where you can still hide behind a post.
