Want the latest production progress report on “The Vampire Diaries” season 5? Although there may not be much at the moment to really write about, given that filming for the series has yet to even begin, Julie Plec is at least giving us an opportunity to see where her uber-creative mind is at when it comes to both this show and “The Originals” spin-off, which will launch on Tuesday, October 15, five days after the flagship show does the same thing.
Speaking in a new series of posts on Twitter, Plec started things off by chatting about the current state of affairs for both “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Tomorrow People,” one of the other new shows that she is developing for the network:
“Work status update: Eps 1 of TVD and TTP are brilliant, thanks to [Caroline Dries], and team Klemmer/Rake.”
As for “The Originals,” the expectations are high, though Plec explains what makes working on this show in particular right now such an Olympic challenge:
“Ep 1 of TheOGs will be brilliant as soon as @MichaelNarducci and I finish it. Hey, YOU try writing a pilot episode to a show you already wrote and aired the pilot for.”
Plec then responded to what are some of the bigger challenges when it comes to “The Originals” premiere, including trying to condense four years of story into a single episode so that new viewers who do not watch “The Vampire Diaries” will understand who these characters are, and what has transpired with them to bring them to this point. In between this, satisfying old fans, and creating a new story, this premiere could easily be two hours and no one would be upset. We expect there to be some exposition in the first episode, but following that point the excitement should raise to another level.
Which one of these shows are you the most excited to see in the new year? We have some early casting details on “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 if you haven’t seen them yet; check it out over here and start creating your theories!
